Title   Antique Sterling SS Locket Fob Picture Victorian Birmingham England 26gm 1880

Condition   used

Item Number   bir

Very substantial piece - might be my favorite from the estate lot so far. It's an interesting piece weighing 26 grams so heavy in hand. It's very ornate and considering the age of the piece - 135 years old the only visible wear is to the smooth backside. It is clearly stamped with the anchor and the lion with a 3rd marking that is worn and I can't clearly ID. Above these 3 stamps are the initials G F. The center oval is raised to a 3d fashion. The locket itself measures 2 & 5/8 inches long and 1 & 5/8 inches wide. This includes the bail. It is also 5/8 inches thick. Attached to the bail is a very large spring ring clasp. Gets interesting here. Attached to the spring ring is another piece. It's just over 1 inch in length and has the same loop top and bottom. Not 100% sure but perhaps a chain ran thru it at one time. Possibly a watch fob. The inside has 2 very wonderful pictures of a dapper gentleman. They are in pristine condition - not faded or worn - each one enclosed behind a clear - I think glass oval. I would have to take the pieces completely out of the frame to determine the exact material content and I'm just not comfortable with as I do not wish to alter or damage the original condition. I will leave that to the new owner. *Someone asked about picture #1 - on the front side of the bail - there is an indentation - it looks like someone stamped it - not like a dent - it's too small and concave. I can't read anything into it. The loop connecting it to the actual locket is not soldered so if you wanted to flip it around to the smooth other side you could. I'm leaving this as found. Where as the upper piece is attached by spring ring that too could be flipped around. I'm leaving these choices to the new owner. Over all a very fine example of the Birmingham era work. I do have more from this estate to still list so if your a fan of this time add me to your favorites and check back now and then. This item will arrive in a gift box suitable for gift giving and will be insured for the full value. Signature upon delivery is required.
